Havana, May 3 (RHC)-- The website of the Presidency of the Republic of Cuba and its accounts on the social networks will transmit moments of the virtual summit of the Non-Aligned Movement on Monday, during which Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez will speak.

The broadcast will be carried live beginning at 7:00 a.m. local time, and will include the Presidency's accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and PICTA (an application of the University of Computer Sciences for the transmission of audiovisuals).

Convened by Azerbaijan in its capacity as president of the Non-Aligned Movement, the meeting "United Against COVID-19" will have the format of contact groups, which include representatives of the different regions that make up the Movement.

The meeting will be headed by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.  Cuban President Díaz-Canel will be accompanied by the Cuban Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Public Health, Bruno Rodríguez and José Ángel Portal Miranda, respectively.

The relevance of the NAM in the current situation is corroborated by the adoption of the communiqués in support of the World Health Organization (WHO) and on COVID-19, which promote global unity, solidarity and international cooperation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The group of more than 100 countries called for the setting aside of political differences and the elimination of unilateral coercive measures, which violate international law and the United Nations Charter, and limit the capacity of States to effectively confront the pandemic, which has so far left more than 238,000 dead around the world.

According to an article in the Sunday edition of the Juventud Rebelde newspaper, among the objectives of the summit are the creation of a common database on the basic medical, social and humanitarian needs of member States in combating the pandemic.

The NAM is also expected to adopt a Declaration by the Heads of State and Government not only on the importance of international solidarity in the fight now against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

There will also be a statement issued on the strengthening of multilateralism for stability and economic and social development in the aftermath of the pandemic.
