Havana, May 6 (ACN)-- Ernesto Medina Rosales assumed the position of President of the Banco Exterior de Cuba (BEC), to which he was appointed by Miguel Díaz-Canel, President of the Republic, under Resolution 25 of the Council of Ministers, dated April 6, 2020.

At the time of his appointment, Medina Rosales was Vice President of the institution, where he began his banking career in 2007 as a specialist in the Commercial Department.

During his presentation to the workers, Marta Wilson González, outgoing president and minister president of the Central Bank of Cuba, highlighted the qualities of the new director of the banking institution and the experience acquired during his preparation as a reserve, according to a note published on the BEC website.

Previously, as part of the process of handing over and receiving the post, a commission of the Central Bank of Cuba headed by Vice President Katerine Aliño, reviewed the operation of the institution, for which it reviewed the governing documents, the work objectives and their fulfillment, as well as the plans and strategies, among other working documents, and identified the main difficulties on which it is necessary to continue working.

Medina Rosales' background includes his experience as Business Manager in the Representative Office of Havin Bank Ltd. in Havana, where he took care of financing businesses with clients, as well as opening accounts for new clients.

During this period, he also acquired experience in the supervision of loans linked to Cuba and the analysis of credit risk related to discount and financing operations.

Ernesto Medina graduated from the University of Havana with a degree in law (2006) and completed a Diploma in International Banking in 2011.  He is currently studying for a Master's degree in Finance.

He has received training from Havin Bank Ltd., in London, in 2015 and 2017, as well as from Salamanca Group Holding Limited, in London, 2017.
