Havana, May 12 (RHC)-- Alicia Jrapko, coordinator in the United States of the International Committee for Peace, Justice and Dignity, and co-chair of the National Network on Cuba (NNOC), assured that despite the COVID-19, and in compliance with the social distancing, the actions of these groups are still active.
"We are infinitely grateful to Cuba for the wonderful solidarity and humanist work they are doing all over the world to help in this pandemic. We feel a great shame for the attitude of the U.S. government not only because of the inhumane treatment it is giving to this crisis within the country but also because of the irresponsible attitude of continuing to blockade countries that are fighting to save lives, especially Cuba and Venezuela, the activist wrote by e-mail.
She stressed that they are defending three demands: to allow medical, clinical and scientific collaboration between the United States, Cuba and Canada, including an invitation to the island's medical brigades to provide direct assistance and offer advice and guidance in the treatment of the new coronavirus.
Also to incorporate Cuba's Recombinant Interferon Alpha 2B in clinical trials in the United States, Canada and the WHO, and to request the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to approve the Cuban drug.
In addition, they demand an end to economic sanctions against Cuba and the right for U.S. citizens to travel to the island.
Recently, the member organizations of the International Committee for Peace, Justice and Dignity of the Peoples, issued a statement condemning the terrorist attacks on the Cuban embassy in Washington, D.C., on April 30, which they described as an act linked to the policy of hatred and extreme aggression manifested by the administration of Donald Trump.
Alicia Jrapko warns that working to support Cuba within the United States is complicated given the level of hostility and the White House's policy of hate towards the Cuban Revolution.
"We would really like to get a medical brigade to come and help in the fight against the pandemic, but the most important thing we would like to achieve is that they lift the criminal blockade against Cuba that has been in place for more than 60 years and has only caused unnecessary suffering to the Cuban people, a peaceful people that has done absolutely nothing to the United States."
