Cuban president expresses condolences for death of Spanish leftist leader

Havana, May 16 (ACN)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel has conveyed his condolences on the death of Julio Anguita González, Spanish leader of the United Left, who died today in Cordoba.  

In a message published today on the social network Twitter, the Cuban leader wrote: "Historic Spanish leader of the United Left, Julio Anguita, died at the age of 78.  We regret his loss.  Our condolences to family, friends and comrades in struggle.  #We areCuba."

Julio Anguita González was a Spanish teacher and politician.  Throughout his political career, he held numerous positions: he was mayor of Cordoba from 1979 to 1986, secretary general of the Communist Party of Spain and general coordinator of Izquierda Unida.

The Spanish political leader died this Saturday after 11 a.m., in Spain, at the age of 78, after being admitted in critical condition to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Reina Sofia Hospital, in Cordoba, after suffering a cardiac arrest.
