Cuba participates in meeting prior to Ibero-American Summit 2020

Havana, 6 July (RHC)-- Cuba participates in the III Meeting of National Coordinators and Cooperation Officers of Ibero-America, held on-line in a virtual conference from the Principality of Andorra, in preparation for the Ibero-American Summit 2020.

Ana Teresita González Fraga, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment of Cuba, reported on her official Twitter account that the main theme of the meeting is Innovation for Sustainable Development-Objective 2030. Latin America facing the challenge of the coronavirus.

At the meeting, which will last until Tuesday,July 7th, the participants will maintain their commitment to finding associative solutions to the health and economic crisis caused by the COVID-19, according to the official website of the Ibero-American General Secretariat.

The meeting will allow both national coordinators and those responsible for cooperation to strengthen and progress in their work, while promoting the synergies already acquired in previous agreements, as highlighted on the website.

Among the main objectives of the working groups are the identification of strategic priorities to create joint planning, promote common services and establish communications.

Due to the conditions imposed by the pandemic, the calendar of preparatory meetings for the Summit has been reformulated.  For the time being, these meetings will be held virtually, on-line, in order to comply with all health precautions and not to interrupt the agenda of the Conference.

The Ibero-American Summit, which has been held since 1991, is attended by 22 nations (19 from Latin America and the Caribbean, plus Portugal, Spain and Andorra).
