Havana, July 11 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel described as "political illiterates" those who propose to "liberate" Cuba and Venezuela, in reference to the statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump the day before against those countries.

The Cuban president wrote on Twitter that those who ignore the history of our peoples should not be talking about two nations that are so free and sovereign and that have inflicted more than one defeat on the empire.

On that social network, Díaz-Canel questioned what the United States intended to do by making more plans against Cuba and Venezuela, instead of facing the epicenter of the pandemic in its territory.

"Does he want to cover up news of records of infections and deaths by COVID in his country?  They are more concerned about votes than about confronting the pandemic in their country," said the Cuban head of state.

Donald Trump said the day before in Florida that he would continue fighting "for Venezuela and for our friends in Cuba," despite the denunciations of the sanctions imposed on the two countries.

The U.S. president visited the Southern Command this Friday in the city of Doral, Florida, to review the progress of an anti-narcotics operation in the Caribbean and the eastern Pacific presented last April.

He then participated in a roundtable at the Doral Jesus Church where he boasted of policies adopted by his administration against Venezuela and Cuba.

On Friday, Cuban foreign minister denounced the fact that the attacker with an assault rifle against the Cuban embassy in Washington, last April 30th, was linked to that church in Doral, Florida.
