Havana, August 3 (RHC)-- Cuba's Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez on Monday said neoliberal policies applied by governments in their economy will only deepen the crisis generated by Covid-19.
The Cuban FM explained on Twitter that as a result of the pandemic, world trade would be affected between 13 and 32% in 2020.
He also said the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) expects the unemployment rate in the region to be around 11.5%.
According to the World Food Program, the health emergency in Latin America has made it difficult for families to buy essential products such as food and medicine, 'while their livelihoods are destroyed, and unemployment affects 44 million people.'
In light of this reality, the call of international organizations is to adopt social policies to protect those most in need, which falls out of step with the essence of the neoliberal system, as Rodríguez pointed out.
