Pinar del Rio, August 19 (RHC)-- In view of the increase in cases of COVID-19, the Provincial Defense Council (CPD) of the Cuban province of Pinar del Río announced this Wednesday the quarantine of the popular councils of Las Cadenas and Manuel Sanguily, given of the location there of the 26 positive cases in the northern municipality of La Palma.

According to a report on the social network Facebook by Santiago Morejón, correspondent of the Tele Pinar TV in Pinar del Rio, the Municipal Defense Council evaluated the measures to be taken in view of the epidemiological situation, associated with the event of transmission of El Mariel.

Likewise, all the defense areas of the municipality were activated and the mobility and access restrictions between the northern area and the rest of the municipality were reinforced, in correspondence with the increase of infected people.

Julio César Rodríguez, president of the CDP, insisted on the need to increase active investigations in the municipality, which reported 22 new cases on Tuesday.

Last Monday, the agency announced measures for the province, among which are the cancellation of reservations for the Pajarito camp, and the limitation of movement in the radius of action from La Ceja to La Mulata.

Some 3,500 people live in Las Cadenas and 5,900 in Manuel Sanguily, hence the complexity of the measures in these communities which cover a total area of 164 square kilometers.

These constitute the third and fourth sites in the province that are under restrictive isolation measures due to the spread of COVID-19, since the previous ones were the Camilo Cienfuegos community, in the municipality of Consolación del Sur, and La Ceiba, in Guane.

By the end of August 18, Pinar del Río had a total of 93 positive results for the pandemic, while 304 people are still being monitored because they are suspects and contacts.
