Havana, October 7 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel assessed the indicators and tasks associated with the country's water development program, official sources reported in Havana.

According to the official site of the Cuban Presidency, authorities of the sector analyzed how to order, fulfill and sustain the services of drinking water and sanitation in a safe way.

The meeting focused on the situation in the capital city, which has been affected by the drought and the negative impact of the COVID-19.  Despite this situation, "nearly 800,000 Havana residents have benefited so far in 2020 from the works carried out as part of the capital's water development program to be implemented until 2030," the site reports.

According to the text, in the first half of the year, the investments executed in the sector were close to 35 million pesos, six percent more than what was foreseen for the stage.  In addition, during this period, 50.5 kilometers of networks and drivers for the supply in Havana were executed.

The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources assured that the population and economic development of the capital city of Havana demands more water than available in the province, so new sources of supply are being sought in nearby provinces.

During the meeting, there were analyzed proposals that, from the scientific and innovative approach, look for solutions in the Cuban hydraulic sector.

Díaz-Canel was interested in the idea of moderate rehabilitation and the sectorization of networks in water supply systems.
