Washington, January 26 (RHC)—US Congressman James P. McGovern (D-MA), Chairman of the House Rules Committee and a senior member of the House Agriculture Committee, sent a letter to President Joe Biden asking him to restore and repair relations between the United States and Cuba.

I am so looking forward to working with you on repairing relations between the United States and Cuba. I urge you to act early, quickly, and comprehensively to repair the great harm that has been done to U.S.-Cuban relations, to the Cuban and American people, the letter reads.

The lawmaker said he believed the United States' biggest mistake in its policy toward Cuba would be to adopt an incremental approach when undoing the last four years' damage.

Also, he asked President Biden to restore a fully functioning US embassy and consular services in Cuba to be headed by an experienced, highly-skilled ambassador and to open up travel, interchanges, and commerce between the American and Cuban people.

Congressman McGovern also requested the immediate end of any sanction against food, medicine, and other humanitarian assistance to Cuba.

Other voices in the United States call on the new president to prioritize the Cuba issue, including such foreign policy organizations as the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) and the Center for Democracy in the Americas (CDA).
