Havana, June 2 (RHC) -– Fernando Gonzalez, one of the five anti-terrorist fighters given unfair prison sentences in the United States and who is in Cuba after having fully served his prison term, highlighted the significance of the international solidarity campaign for the release of his three compatriots still held in U.S. jails and the upcoming Five Days for the Five action to take place, from June 4th to the 11th, in Washington, DC.
During a press conference in Havana on Monday, Gonzalez said that this time the activity will count on larger participation than the two previous years, as well as better organization and we expect it to be a more effective action given the experience learned, he noted and added that it will be a good occasion for Washington to feel the increasing pressure given the large solidarity with the Cuban Five case.
According to sources from the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five, the action will include the participation of 12 parliamentarians from 10 countries; four mayors; 7 religious leaders, plus about 30 personalities from different countries, including the United States and Canada; plus 11 jurists, unionists.
Demonstrations for the release of Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labanino and Gerardo Hernandez will take place in front of U.S. embassies in 15 countries during the Washington campaign.
Responding to questions by journalists Fernando Gonzalez said that he was fully confident that the Cuban government will do anything possible to have his three brothers back home and that he hoped that Washington understands that they need to be free, and that sooner than later they will be back home since it's been too long already.
The three anti-terrorist Cubans held in U.S. prison, along Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez were arrested in 1998 and submitted to a biased Miami trail in 2001 that gave them unfair prison sentences after they monitored Florida-based ultra-right organizations that planned terrorist actions against Cuba.
