Havana, June 2 (RHC) – The historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, sent fraternal greetings to the government and people of El Salvador following the swearing-in ceremony for new Salvadorian president Salvador Sanchez Ceren.

The message was conveyed by Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa during a ceremony at the Civic Square in San Salvador, where Sanchez Ceren was inaugurated as new president.

Valdes Mesa also conveyed greetings from Cuban President Raul Castro and from the people of Cuba, who have been and will always stand by the noble and heroic people of El Salvador, he said.

The Cuban vice president stressed the decision by former Salvadoran President Mauricio Funes to reestablish bilateral relations with Cuba on June 1, 2009 as his first action in power.

Since that moment, El Salvador joined the unanimous rejection of the U.S. economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for over 50 years, and which have brought suffering and shortages to the Cuban people.

Valdes Mesa thanked Sanchez Ceren and the Salvadorian people for their support of the international claim for the return home of the Cuban anti-terrorist fighters still held in US prisons and he wished Sanchez Ceren success in his presidential term which will run for five years.
