Havana, Jun 5 (RHC) - Planting a tree is sowing life, and that is what young people did  Saturday morning in the 15 municipalities of the Cuban capital to celebrate Jun 5, World Environment Day, and reaffirm their commitment to the future and the safeguarding of the planet.

The initiative was part of the Youth in Green Day, which has been carried out since last Tuesday by the Youth Technical Brigades (BTJ) and the Cuban Youth Environmental Network, and during which actions like this one today and others aimed at preserving and increasing the nation's forest heritage have taken place all over the country.

The Committees for the Defense of the Revolution and the Federation of Cuban Women accompanied the young people in the massive planting of timber, fruit, and medicinal trees in Havana, which took place at the Martiano Forest in the Ciudad Escolar Libertad, said Jeiller Carmona Brito, president of the BTJ.

Conferences, meetings, exhibitions, even "assaults" to territorial delegations of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment -as in the case of Cienfuegos-, the awarding of the Young Lens and other contests convened for the date: for all this and more there is space reserved for today in the extensive program.
