Damascus, September 9 (RHC)— The Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal al-Mekdad, described as inhumane and immoral the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the U.S. government.

We express our full solidarity, and we consider that the blockade against sister Cuba and the Caesar Law imposed on Syria are two sides of the same coin, said the foreign minister in exclusive statements to Prensa Latina, after a meeting with the ambassador of the island,  Miguel Porto.

He denounced that successive U.S. administrations have violated the principles on which the United States itself was created by depriving the Cuban and Syrian peoples of food and medicines, which runs against moral and humane logic.

The senior official described bilateral, economic, and political relations as deep, and highlighted the willingness to overcome hardships that prevent their development, either the Covid-19 pandemic or the war on terror waged by Syria and Cuba's constant fight to defend its sovereignty and independence.

According to the foreign minister, the world thanks Cuba for providing health care and supporting the people who are fighting for their freedom and independence, particularly in Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.
