Havana, July 1 (RHC) –- The first tropical storm of the current hurricane season, to be called Arthur, is expected to develop from a tropical depression that came to life early Tuesday in the Atlantic Ocean, some 155 kilometers southeast of Cape Canaveral, on the eastern coast of the U.S. State of Florida.

According to the Cuban Meteorology Institute, the tropical depression maintains 55-kilometer-per-hour sustained winds with strongest gusts and it is moving westward at four kilometers per hour.

Over the next 12 to 24 hours, the tropical depression will continue on track and later will turn north, maintaining its speed and gaining in intensity and organization, the Institute explains.

The 2014 hurricane season in the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico began June 1st and runs until November 30th.
