Havana, Oct 1st (RHC) On Thursday, Cuba sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the new China and ratified the willingness to strengthen political dialogue and cooperation with that nation.

In a letter from Deputy Foreign Minister Gerardo Peñalver Portal to Beijing's ambassador in Havana, Ma Hui, he reiterated the commitment to work in defense of multilateralism, the principles of international law and the United Nations Charter.

In the letter published on the Cuban Foreign Ministry's website, the diplomat described the establishment of the new China (on October 1, 1949) as a transcendental event in the history of mankind.

Similarly, Peñalver Portal recalled the 61 years of diplomatic relations between the Caribbean nation and the Asian giant.

'Cuba is honored to have been the first country in the Western Hemisphere to recognize, in 1960, the Government of the People's Republic of China as its sole legitimate representative, as well as to have fought for more than a decade, together with other developing countries, until the restoration of that State's representation in the United Nations,' he wrote.

Deputy minister noted that the ties between the two countries have reached full maturity, accompanied by consensuses of the top leaders of the two territories.

He added that the socialist nation constitutes a factor of balance and safeguard of world peace, and reaffirmed the invariable support to the principle of one China. (Source: Prensa Latina).
