Namibia's historic leader, Sam Nujoma.
Havana, October 7 (RHC)-- The end of the blockade against Cuba is a demand of African countries to the United States Government, former Namibia's president Sam Nujoma affirmed Thursday.
Speaking at the 7th African Continental Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba, Namibia's founding father recalled that the relationship between the peoples of Cuba and Namibia was forged in the struggle against apartheid colonialism.
"We the Namibian people will never forget the heroism of Cuban internationalists in the battle of Quito Quanavale where we defeated the white minority regime of South Africa and eradicated apartheid colonialism from the face of our continent," he said.
The veteran leader added that this was achieved through solidarity and that it was, therefore, a significant concern that the international community has not sustained the principle of solidarity and cooperation in securing equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines, one of the subjects discussed at the event.
Africa currently expresses that same solidarity in its condemnation of the US blockade against Cuba, Sam Nujoma stated.
The former Namibia's president denounced that the blockade aims to cause suffering and agony to the Cuban people and accumulate harmful damages to its economy.
Therefore, he reiterated that the African countries urge US President Joe Biden to eliminate it, and they also demand the return of the Cuban territory illegally occupied by the United States at the Guantanamo naval base.
