Cuba's ambassador to UNESCO, Yahima Esquivel.
Paris, October 12 (RHC) --Cuba advocated on Tuesday at UNESCO's Executive Council for the construction of a post-pandemic Covid-19 world dominated by social justice and equal rights among human beings, a scenario that is becoming more and more distant.
Speaking at the forum, the Cuban ambassador to the multilateral organization, Yahima Esquivel, urged to talk about normality, betting on a future different from the foreseeable one, a planet marked by more unjust and insecure societies.
She asked in her speech: "What kind of normality are we referring to, that which was already a fatality for the poor, the vulnerable, women, victims of racism, and peoples oppressed by sanctions and blockades?
According to the diplomat, the international community should make possible the better world that humanity needs.
The diplomat said Cuba will remain deeply committed to UNESCO and the values it represents; and that it trusts in the leadership of the director-general, Audrey Azoulay, who is intent on strengthening it and making it t more relevant.
Esquivel warned the Executive Council of the UN organization specializing in Education, Science, and Culture that the Covid-19 pandemic exposed the nature of the unjust international order resulting from the prevailing neoliberal model.
