Argentinean Defense Minister Visits Cuba

Havana, July 3 (RHC) – The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Argentina, Agustin Rossi, began a working visit to Cuba, where he will tour research centers, educational institutions and places of historic and cultural interest.

Heading a delegation of diplomats and accompanied by Juliana Isabel Marino, the Argentinean ambassador in Havana, Rossi was received by the Army General Alvaro Lopez Miera, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC), First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (MINFAR) and head of its General Staff.

The official welcome to the Argentinean minister took place at the Major General Antonio Maceo Mausoleum, located in El Cacahual, where they laid a wreath in honor of the notable Cuban patriot.

Lopez Miera told Rossi details of the life of the Mambi strategist and also highlighted his importance in the island’s struggles for independence.

At the end of the welcoming ceremony, the Argentinean representation visited the “Rescate de Sanguily” Great Unit of Tanks of Combative Glory, Antonio Maceo Order, in which Brigadier General Rafael Ignacio Borjas, head of the Unit, spoke about the training of military personnel.

The Minister also participated in an exhibition on modernized technology and weaponry, and verified the development of science and technological innovation according to the training of Cuban troops.

Finally, Rossi, at the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, held official talks with his counterpart in Cuba, Army Corps General Leopoldo Cintra Frias, Minister of the MINFAR, and a member of the Political Bureau of the PCC and of the Council of State.

The official visit of Agustín Rossi will end today, Thursday, after holding work meetings in Havana.
