Cuba regrets passing of AP's Chief Correspondent

Havana, November 23 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel regretted the sudden death of  Fernando Gonzalez da Silva, AP Chief Correspondent in Havana last SundayThe journalist of Uruguayan origin died due to a heart attack. He was 60,  reported AP.

 

"Gonzalez joined the AP full-time in 2002 as a senior producer of video coverage in Havana. He moved to Washington in 2014 as a regional video editor for Latin America and the Caribbean before moving to Mexico City as the AP's deputy news director for Latin America in 2016. He returned to Cuba in 2020 as The Associated Press news director for the Caribbean and Andes regions," the publication reviewed.

 

After learning the news of the passing of Gonzalez da Silva,  Diaz-Canel wrote on Twitter: "We share sorrow for the sudden death of the Director of AP_Noticias in Cuba, where he leaves a mark of affection and respect for the journalistic profession."

 

For its part, the International Press Center of Cuba, via Twitter, highlighted González Da Silva's extensive experience in news coverage. At the same time, he was "characterized by respect and objectivity about Cuba. Our condolences to his family and the entire AP team".
