Havana, December 18 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel conveyed his condolences to family, friends, and colleagues of troubadour Vicente Feliú, who died of a heart attack on stage at the age of 74 Friday.

Very sad blow to the soul of the country, the sudden death of Vicente Feliú. He was playing the chords of "La Bayamesa" when his heart failed. May his emblematic "Créeme," his Guevarianas, his Auroras, and his deep loyalty to the Revolution always enlighten us. Farewell, dear friend," tweeted the president.

On the same social media network, the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba lamented the death of Feliú, whom they described as "one of the most representative voices of the New Song, Nueva Trova in Cuba. Thank you, maestro for your work, for your indelible legacy".

The Cuban Ministry of Culture and the Cuban Institute of Music offered their condolences too.

Both institutions said arrangements for a tribute will be informed in due time and that by family decision, his body will be cremated.

In life, Feliú transcended for his work linked to the Cuban Revolution together with Silvio Rodríguez, Pablo Milanés, and Noel Nicola as founders of the New Trova Movement and shared the stage with relevant musicians, among them, the Spanish Luis Eduardo Aute, the Chileans Isabel Parra and Inti Illimani, the Argentineans León Gieco and Mercedes Sosa, the Americans Jackson Browne and Pete Seeger, and the Uruguayans Daniel Viglietti and Alfredo Zitarrosa.
