Fidel's historic speech is remembered in Manzanillo
Manzanillo, February 6 (RHC)-- Right on the stage where Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz spoke to the people of the city of Manzanillo 63 years ago, a representation of local residents gathered to commemorate the date.
"With the announcement of the arrival of Fidel Castro and his collaborator in the struggle and revolutionary work, Celia Sanchez, and other figures of the Rebel Army, on February 4 of that year, extraordinary hours of popular jubilation were experienced, which, without a moment's decline, lasted until well into the early morning, when the immense concentration in Carlos Manuel de Cespedes Park ended," as described by a newspaper of the time.
Gathered in front of what used to be the former Eden Hotel, today Naples Pizzeria, the historic leader of the Revolution acknowledged that "he lacked a people to meet with, a crowd he had been slow to reach: the people of Manzanillo, of whom we were always sure when they were needed in any mission".
Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz pointed out that "the Revolution, all of Cuba should be grateful to Manzanillo because from Manzanillo came the first money for the Revolution, the first provisions, the first hammocks, the first shoes, the first blankets, the first medicines and the first volunteers... a counterforce of the Sierra Maestra".
In the remembrance ceremony, four young people received the card as new militants of the #UJC, among them Leyla Rivas Gómez, who recalled fragments of Fidel's words that historic dawn and said that it is up to the new generations to be consistent with the historical continuity of the Homeland.
During the ceremony, the management of the Commerce company was encouraged, on the occasion of the day of the workers of that sector; and the representatives of the political and mass organizations delivered the work commitments as part of the campaign Por Granma, lo mejor (For Granma, the best).
Armando Labrada Salas, secretary general of the CTC in the territory stated that in view of the interference attitude of the US government against Cuba with the tightening of the blockade.
"It is necessary greater unity and effort of each labor collective; as the generation of the centenary firm in each objective; being efficient in the objectives of the economy and services", concluded the union representative.
Alexander Spech Céspedes and José Enrique Remón Domínguez, main political and governmental authorities of the municipality, among other leaders headed the Manzanillo celebration for the 63rd anniversary of Fidel's first speech here, after the Triumph of the Revolution.
