Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero addresses forum at Summit of Americas in Los Angeles.

Havana, June 9 (RHC)-- Representatives of several countries denounced the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the United States at the 9th Summit of the Americas,  underway in Los Angeles.

Marcelo Ebrard, Foreign Minister of Mexico, said that it is incredible that at this point in time blockades, embargoes and sanctions against American countries are still being imposed, even at a time of the pandemic, contradicting international law.

The Mexican diplomat also condemned the exclusion of member countries of the continent from the event, which he considered a serious strategic error.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina, Santiago Cafiero, said that handing out sanctions and blockades goes in the opposite direction to the search for effective tools to combat inequality.

"The commitment to democratic governance that has been worked on at this summit cannot be achieved if these measures persist in our region," he said.

Likewise, the Honduran Foreign Minister, Enrique Reina, disapproved of the unilateral measures taken in some nations of the region, which do not contribute to building better spaces for development and relations between peoples.

Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica, also issued a declaration in which he highlighted the humanitarianism of Cuba and invited the community of the Organization of American States (OAS) to call for the end of the blockade against the government and people of that island.

The 9th Summit of the Americas is taking place in the U.S. city of Los Angeles, with the exclusion of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua by the host country.

Numerous governments of the region criticized this arbitrary decision and defended the participation of all, under equal conditions.
