Havana, July 22 (RHC) -– In his most recent Reflection, published Tuesday by the Cuban media, Revolution leader Fidel Castro stresses the role and significance of the recent summit of the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) as an initiative able to meet the demands of today’s market and fight current inequalities.
In his article, Fidel recalls that during the summit, recently held in the Brazilian city of Fortaleza, BRICS proposed improved macro-economic coordination among major world economies, the creation of a new Development Bank, the setting up of a Common Financial Fund for emergency situations and the support of a multilateral and open trade system.
The Cuban Revolution leader says that it could appear to be one more accord among many currently appearing in news wires of major Western agencies, but its meaning is crystal clear and strong: Latin America is the world’s geographic area where the United States has imposed the most unequal system on the planet.
In his article, the Cuban leader says he harbors no doubts that when President Xi Jinping concludes his current tour of this part of the world, as Russia’s Vladimir Putin recently did, the two countries will have made one of the major deeds ever in human history.
The BRICS Declaration, approved July 15, 2014, in Fortaleza, calls for larger participation of other countries, particularly those fighting for their own development to foster cooperation and solidarity with the nations and especially with these in South America, Fidel explains. He cited a paragraph of the document in which the BRICS countries acknowledge the importance of the Union of South American Nations in promoting peace and democracy in the region and in achieving sustainable development and the eradication of poverty.
Finally, Fidel said that we would only have to consider the populations of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa as a whole to understand that they make up for half the world population.
And Fidel concludes by noting that the major events in history are not forged in just one day. Important challenges and tests of great complexity are ahead.
