Havana, Jul 18 (RHC)-- Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, attended the funeral honors of Commander José Ramón Balaguer Cabrera, at the Veterans' Pantheon, in the Cristobal Colon Cemetery in Havana.
The Cuban president was part of the honor guard in honor of the revolutionary fighter of the underground struggle and the Rebel Army.
Floral offerings on behalf of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and the National Assembly of People's Power accompanied the urn of Balaguer Cabrera, a consecrated Cuban who left with his departure an extensive record of service to the homeland.
In his farewell remarks on Saturday, Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee and head of the ideological department of the CC, recalled Balaguer's revolutionary teaching, modesty, and human warmth.
Balaguer Cabrera began his struggle at a very young age as a student leader, combatant of the Sierra Maestra, deputy, diplomat, minister, founder of the Communist Party of Cuba and member of its Secretariat, functions that he fulfilled with moral integrity and ideological sharpness that he always put at the disposal of the socialist construction in the most different tasks, the official said.
The ashes of Comandante Balaguer will be transferred to the Second Eastern Front Frank País later.The revolutionary combatant passed away in Havana on July 15. He was 90.
Messages of condolences from Cuban personalities and institutions were posted on Twitter, as well as from Cuba solidary activists and organizations from Latin America.
