Havana, July 25 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel will carry out a program of activities this Monday in the city of Cienfuegos, in the south-central part of the country, site of the National Rebellion Day ceremony.

The president announced in his profile on the social network Twitter that he will visit neighborhoods, productive, cultural and educational centers, where he will exchange with the people.

He specified that he will also visit the facilities of the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes thermoelectric plant, located in that province and one of the most efficient and stable in the country, which is currently going through a tense situation of electricity generation.

Cuba celebrates every year the National Rebellion Day on July 26, 1953, when the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, led a group of fighters to storm the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks in the eastern part of the country.

Although the military action was unsuccessful, it was the genesis of the revolutionary movement called 26th of July, which years later would undertake the armed struggle to overthrow the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista.

Each year Cuba selects a different venue for the celebrations for the anniversary, which includes a political-cultural event, artistic galas and the inauguration of works of economic and social benefit.

According to a press release from the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, this year, the 69th anniversary of the historical event, the province of Cienfuegos was selected for its stability in the fulfillment of its economic indicators and social advances.
