Havana, September 2 (RHC)-- President Miguel Díaz-Canel today described as historic the referendum on the Family Code, in which voters are called to vote on September 25 in Cuba.
He also pointed out on the social network Twitter that "we will be voting for a transcendental document, the so-called Code of Affections, which is not a slogan, it is an essence."
The 25th version of this legislative text was approved by the National Assembly of People's Power (parliament) in its most recent session. Still, for it to enter into force, it must be submitted to a referendum for voters' approval in an exercise of democracy.
According to experts, the Family Code, which, if approved, will replace the one in force since 1976, is a norm that seeks to resemble the Cuba of the present, which also includes the most advanced international legislation on the subject of the family.
