Bridges of Love organizes donations to Cuba after Hurricane Ian

Washington, Sep 29(PL) - The U.S. solidarity project Bridges of Love launched a campaign to collect donations for Cuba, after the passage of Hurricane Ian through the western portion of the island.

The cyclone, a category 3 on the Saffir-Simpson scale, caused serious damage to agriculture, telecommunications, and electricity.

In a live transmission, the leader of the movement, the Cuban-American Carlos Lazo, stressed that people can collaborate with the island through the web page ayudapacuba.com and the electronic payment system Zelle at 425-442-8218.

He mentioned that they use the same platform created last August to help the western province of Matanzas after the large-scale fire registered there at the Supertankers base. The activist recalled that this page, coordinated by the U.S. organization Codepink, has already collected 55 thousand dollars, funds used for the purchase of about 30 thousand surgical gloves, powdered milk, and other items. According to Lazo, these and other supplies that can be acquired with the new aid, are destined for the province of Pinar del Río and the special municipality of Isla de la Juventud, the territories most affected by Ian. The donations should arrive soon in the Caribbean nation.
