Tegucigalpa, October 22 (RHC)-- The governments of Cuba and Honduras signed an agreement in Tegucigalpa to strengthen cooperation in the education sector, one of President Xiomara Castro's priorities.
The Honduran Secretary of Education, Daniel Esponda, and the Cuban Vice Minister of Education, Eugenio González, signed the document for the installation in the Central American country of the Cuban method "Yo sí Puedo" (Yes, I can).
The implementation of the program will be advised by 123 Cuban teachers, almost all of them masters and doctors in Pedagogy, who will arrive in the next two months.
The Cuban program is recognized worldwide, among others by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization), for its effectiveness and for being an example of South-South cooperation. In Honduras, the aim is to eradicate illiteracy among nearly half a million people.
The signing of the agreement was attended by ministers, parliamentarians, and other high-ranking officials of the Honduran government and the Cuban ambassador to that nation, Juan Roberto Loforte.
Bilateral relations have received a strong boost since President Xiomara Castro took office.
In July of this year the Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Rodrigo Malmierca visited Tegucigalpa, where he signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote collaboration in sectors such as health, medicines, education, transportation, and sports.
