Havana, November 10 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel on Thursday described as fruitful a meeting with Mario Búcaro, Foreign Minister of Guatemala and President of the Council of Ministers of the Association of Caribbean States (ACS).

On his Twitter account, the Cuban leader said that during the meeting, also attended by the Secretary General of that organization, Rodolfo Sabonge, and other executives, he expressed his appreciation for the confidence placed in the island, selected as the venue for the Sixth ACS International Cooperation Conference.

For his part, Búcaro expressed the hospitality and capacity of the host country for the development of the conclave, and indicated the urgency of "thinking differently and innovating" in order to solve the persistent problems in the area.

The Guatemalan head of state praised the Program of Cuban doctors in the Caribbean, a symbol of cooperation and of vital importance for the nations of that geographic area.

According to the Government's Facebook page, Díaz Canel appeared with senior officials prior to the inauguration of the meeting, and expressed the relevance of the search for complementarity and the consolidation of a space of participation for all.

In that scenario, the president valued as challenges the continuity, deepening and concretion of programs of common interest; he ratified Cuba's support to the Caribbean countries, and thanked the organization's support to the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

The head of state alluded to the coincidence of positions regarding the need to advance in regional projects in favor of "the future of our peoples and that contribute to the next Summit of the Association, in 2023".
