New school year will begin in all Cuban provinces

Havana, Nov 18 (RHC) Cuban Minister of Education Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella said Friday that more than 1.7 million students will begin the 2022-2023 school year on Monday, Nov. 28, including students in the province of Pinar del Río, which was severely affected by Hurricane Ian.

At a press conference, the Minister assured that this school year will be shorter, as it will end in June 2024, and it will be the last one where curricular adaptations will be applied.

Regarding the westernmost of the provinces, she clarified that they have the support of the community, who provide spaces in more than 240 family homes, as well as in the premises of companies or organizations to develop teaching activities.

She added that currently, the territory promotes the repair of educational institutions and the restitution of furniture.

Velázquez Cobiella explained that the week from November 21 to 25 is not a school recess but serves as a transition between courses.

As of the 2023-2024 school year, the regular school calendar which begins on the first Monday of September and ends in June of the following year will be reinstated. (Source: ACN)
