Havana, August 8 (RHC) -– The setting up of a solar farm in the outskirts of the western city of Pinar del Rio confirms the will of the Cuban government to develop renewable energy sources.
Project specialist Efren Marcos told reporters that the construction of the solar panel facility has advanced 27 percent at the locality of Cayo Cana, some 140 kilometers west of Havana, and it will be concluded in 2016.
The facility will operate locally made solar panels with an output of 2,5 megawatts. The initiative is part of the country’s plans to diversify power generation sources and to reduce fossil fuel use.
