Ambassador praises the results of the meeting of Cubans in Europe

Berlin, Nov 20 (RHC) Cuba's ambassador to Germany, Juana Martínez, acknowledged on Sunday the results of the Meeting of Cuban Residents in Europe -ECRE-, Berlin-2022 for its contributions to the strengthening of nation-emigration ties and the defense of our country.

We highlight the depth of the debates, the commitment and love for the homeland of the participants, and the proposals for concrete actions to accompany it in the fight against the U.S. blockade, she told Prensa Latina, regarding the forum that culminated this Sunday with an act of solidarity at the Brandenburg Gate and a final declaration.

According to the diplomat, the quality of the discussions and the good organization of the event were the results of months of preparation, in a process in which Cubans spread throughout the continent participated.

We can affirm that the ECRE in Berlin was dominated by the support to the process chosen in a sovereign way by the Antillean nation and the demand to be allowed to live in peace, she stressed. In this sense, she highlighted the condemnation of the brutal blockade imposed by Washington on Cuba and its economic war.

She also valued the awareness of the delegates about the need to join forces and articulate in defense of the homeland and its values of solidarity and humanity.

For Martinez, the forum that took place in this capital invited to remember the dialogue held 44 years ago between emigrants, particularly residents in the United States, and the historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro, who expressed the importance of rapprochement.

Fidel Castro's messages are still valid, and in this meeting, we saw the willingness of Cubans in Europe to contribute to the socioeconomic development of the country and to help their compatriots in the face of difficulties, she said.

The ambassador to Germany highlighted the greetings sent by President Miguel Díaz-Canel, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Ana Teresita González, the national coordinator of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, Gerardo Hernández, and other authorities and personalities.

She also thanked the presence at the ECRE of Congressman Enrique Alemán and Laura Pujol, deputy director of the General Directorate of Consular Affairs and Attention to Cubans Living Abroad of the Foreign Ministry.

The Berlin meeting represented the return after the Covid-19 pandemic to the face-to-face forums of Cubans living in Europe, who in the final declaration denounced the U.S. blockade and the inclusion of the island in Washington's unilateral list of countries sponsoring terrorism.

They also reiterated their rejection of the intensification of the media and communicational aggression, the attempts to discredit the solidarity work of Cuba, and the non-compliance by the U.S. government with the migratory agreements signed by the parties. "Our love for Cuba does not set conditions nor does it have an expiration date", they stated in the text (Source: Prensa Latina).
