Esteban Lazo makes official visit to Russia
Moscow, Nov 30 (RHC) The president of Cuba’s National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, on the first day of his official visit to Russia, held meetings with the top leaders of both chambers of parliament.
In the Federation Council, the President of the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba held a brief meeting with the leader of the upper house Valentina Matvienko, after which he addressed the plenary of Russian deputies.
At the end of the meeting in the Federation Council, Lazo and his delegation paid tribute to the unknown soldier by the Kremlin walls.
In the last activity of the morning of his first day in Russia, the Cuban leader held a meeting with the chairman of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Voronin.
They highlighted the good level of bilateral relations between the governments and parliaments of Cuba and Russia, which were evidenced during the recent visit of President Miguel Diaz-Canel to Moscow.
Volodin pointed out that Cuba, more than a strategic partner, is an example country in the struggle it has waged for decades for its independence and sovereignty against a powerful neighbor that has spared no resources against the Caribbean Island.
For his part, Lazo thanked the Russian parliamentarians for their interest in strengthening relations between the legislative bodies of the two countries and stressed that in the current conditions strengthening those ties is a necessity for both Russia and Cuba.
At the end of the meeting, Lazo and Volodyn signed the act of constitution of the Commission for Collaboration between the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the National Assembly of People's Power of the Republic of Cuba.
The two parliamentary leaders also agreed that the first session of the commission will be held next February in Havana.
In the afternoon, the President of the Cuban Parliament will hold another meeting with the President of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko.
Once the meeting is over, Lazo will present Matvienko with the Order of Solidarity, granted by the President of the Republic of Cuba at the proposal of the Council of State. (Source: PL)
