Kingstown, December 3 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel arrived Saturday in St. Vincent and the Grenadines on an official visit, the first stop on his Caribbean tour that includes Barbados and Grenada.
According to the Presidency of the Republic on the social network Twitter, the president was seen off in our country by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Raúl Castro.
On Saint Vincent's soil, Díaz-Canel was received by Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves and Governor General Susan Dougan.
"This visit will result in the consolidation of political ties that are excellent and will allow us to advance in our cooperative relations," the president said during a dialogue with Gonsalves.
You are the closest brothers we have; and we are the closest brothers you have," he said. Both dignitaries toured areas of Argyle International Airport, built with the help of Cuba, following an idea of historic leader Fidel Castro.
This is the first time a Cuban head of state visits St. Vincent and the Grenadines, a Caribbean nation made up of some 33 islands and cays.
President Díaz-Canel's tour of Caribbean nations will include his participation along with several ministers in the VIII CARICOM-Cuba Summit to be held in Barbados next week.
