Havana, December 10 (RHC)-- Army General Raul Castro attended Saturday the closing session of the Fifth Plenary Session of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), where key issues of the country's economic and social development were analyzed.
The control of inflation, electricity generation and the increase in the supply of basic products were the focus of the debates on the second day of the meeting.
The first secretary of the PCC, Miguel Díaz-Canel, was in charge of the closing speech in which he called for moving from welfare to true transformation and social assistance; for intense and intelligent work to crush bureaucracy; for innovation to be present and to bring results to the economy.
Likewise, the President urged to promote local development and productive systems, municipal autonomy and to move towards a less centralized system of resources; to work to eliminate the country's accentuated social inequalities.
We have an economy with imbalances, with polarized sectors that accentuate these monetary imbalances. There is a deterioration in the purchasing power of income, especially in the budgeted sectors.
We have to bet and achieve an economy that is prosperous and sustainable even under conditions of an intensified blockade. We have to overcome the blockade from within and by ourselves.
