Municipal Assembly of People's Power
Havana, Dec 17 (RHC) The 168 Municipal Assemblies of People's Power in Cuba (AMPP) are scheduled to be constituted today and are made up of more than 12,000 delegates who won the recent elections held in the country.
After taking office, the delegates will elect, by secret ballot, the presidents and vice presidents of these bodies and appoint their secretaries.
The Municipal Assemblies of People's Power are the highest representation of the State power in their demarcation and are part of the socialist democratic system on the island, which is based on the direct election of its representatives by the citizens.
They approve and control the economic plan, the budget, and the integral development plan of the territory.
More than five million Cubans elected 12,422 delegates to municipal districts in two rounds of elections, held on November 27 and December 4. (Source: PL)
