Havana, Dec 18 (RHC) The 168 Municipal Assemblies of People's Power were constituted for a new term of office in full compliance with the Constitution and the Electoral Law.

The election of the delegates was declared valid, and they will exercise their mandate for a period of five years. 

The constitutive assemblies were attended by 98.66% of the delegates elected last November 27.

The oath was also subscribed by the delegates as faithful servants of the people and their community.

The presidents and vice presidents of 167 municipal assemblies of the People's Power of the country were elected by free, equal, direct, and secret vote and their secretaries were appointed.

The elected presidents and vice presidents of the Municipal Assemblies of People's Power obtained more than 50% of the valid votes cast.

The results achieved on today's election day are superior to previous processes. 182 women were elected as presidents and vice presidents, representing 54.49 %.

The average age of those elected dropped to 43, the educational level rose to 95.5% and the number of blacks and mulattos increased to 131, representing 39% of the total.

The validity and quality of this democratic process ratify the municipal assemblies of the People's Power as the superior organ of the State, having the responsibility to promote the economic and social development of the territories and to worthily represent the interests of the people.

The National Electoral Council is grateful for the participation and discipline with which this process has been developed.
