Havana, Dec 22 (RHC) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Thursday congratulated Cuban teachers on the day Cubans celebrate Teacher's Day in the archipelago.
In a message released on Twitter, the president thanked teachers and education workers and evoked the thoughts of National Hero José Martí on what a teacher means to society.
Teacher is a beautiful word that defines those who teach and guide. Martí compared their work with that of a creator. It is the one we use to recognize those who fill other human beings with knowledge and instruction. In #Cuba, they are loved as family. Happy Teacher's Day, the head of state wrote.
He added in his message that there are few days in the school calendar as happy as today when we celebrate Cuban educators. Thank you for your perseverance and dedication, four self-improvements, and creativity. We are all children of our teachers.
In Cuba, December 22 was chosen as Teacher's Day to commemorate the declaration of the archipelago as a territory free of illiteracy on that date in 1961.

At present, Cuba has one of the highest schooling rates in the region and its education system stands out for its geographic and social coverage.
The country has more than 250 thousand education professionals who also contribute to the literacy and education of people from other latitudes, mainly through the use of the Yo sí puedo method, developed by Cuban teachers. (Source: PL)
