Governments of Cuba and India strengthen bilateral ties

Havana, January 14 (RHC)-- The governments of Cuba and India strengthened their bilateral ties on Friday with the official visit to the island of the Minister of State for Foreign and Cultural Affairs of that Asian nation, Meenakshi Lekhi.

During the visit, the diplomat was received by Acting Foreign Minister Gerardo Peñalver, who thanked India for its permanent support for Cuba's resolution against the blockade imposed by the United States.

The official expressed her country's willingness to continue strengthening political dialogue and the development of economic relations and cooperation between both parties.

According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Lekhi and Peñalver reviewed the main issues on the bilateral and multilateral agenda.

They also highlighted the coincidence of the presence of the Indian diplomat in Havana with the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations and Cuba's assumption of the pro tempore presidency of the G77+China.

Both diplomats stressed that Cuba and India maintain common positions in defense of the principles of International Law, multilateralism, and the legitimate rights of developing countries.

The Indian Minister also laid a wreath at the monument of the National Hero, José Martí, in Havana's Revolution Square, among other activities. (Source: Prensa Latina)
