The Cuban government has thanked the U.S. Embassy in Havana for donating specialized equipment for firefighters.

Havana, January 14 (RHC)-- The Cuban government has thanked the U.S. Embassy in Havana for donating specialized equipment for firefighters.

On his Twitter account, the Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossio thanked the gesture, which consisted of the delivery of 100 modules donated to the Cuban Fire Department at the National Fire School.

He recalled this equipment was offered on the occasion of the fire that occurred at the Matanzas
Supertanker Base, in the west of the island, on August 5, 2022.

The event, caused by an electrical discharge on one of the fuel tanks of that facility, resulted in the most devastating fire of its kind in Cuba's history, with 16 deaths, most of them firefighters, dozens of injured, and millions of dollars in material losses.

Numerous nations immediately provided significant assistance to extinguish the fire, which spread to three other enormous fuel depots, especially Mexico and Venezuela, which contributed specialists in combating this type of fire and substantial resources.

The U.S. government offered technical assistance at that time, which was also appreciated by the authorities of our country. (Source: Prensa Latina).
