Havana, Jan 25 (RHC) A total of 159 irregular migrants were returned to Cuba on Tuesday, 94 from Mexico, and 65 were brought back by the U.S. Coast Guard.
These actions are part of the migratory agreements signed by both nations, informed the Cuban Ministry of Interior.
This is the first operation of the year from Mexican territory, which included 35 women, 44 men, and 15 minors, who left Cuba legally to travel to Central American and Caribbean countries. However, they subsequently embarked on an illegal and irregular route to Mexico to reach the southern border of the United States, the agency specified.
It indicated that 55 men and 10 women involved in three illegal departures were intercepted at sea and returned through the port of Orozco, Bahía Honda, in the province of Artemisa. Most of them are from Artemisa, Matanzas, and Granma.
According to the information, two of them were taken into custody since they are allegedly involved in serious criminal acts that were under investigation before they left the country illegally.
So far this year, 1,643 irregular migrants were returned from Mexico, the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, and the US.
Cuba ratifies its commitment to regular, safe, and, orderly migration and reiterates the danger and life-threatening conditions posed by illegal departures from the country by sea and the irresponsible involvement of minors. (Source: ACN).
