Mariela Castro in Italy

Catanzaro, Feb 26 (RHC) During presentations in Calabria, Cuban Congresswoman Mariela Castro Espín, director of the National Center for Sex Education (Cenesex), reaffirmed the humanist character of the Revolution in her country.

During a visit to the municipal headquarters of the Commune of Rende, together with the island's ambassador to Italy, Mirta Granda, the deputy was received by Lisa Sorrentino, advisor to Mayor Marcello Manna, who stressed the importance of her presence, which contributes to strengthening the friendship that unites Calabria with Cuba.

She referred to a medical brigade, with more than 50 specialists, present in this southern region of the country since the end of 2022, collaborating with the improvement of the health system.

Other authorities of the mayor's office participated in the activity, who presented the parliamentarian and the diplomat with bouquets, as well as Marcos Papacci and Pino Scarcelli, president and regional coordinator, respectively, of the Italy-Cuba Friendship Association (Anaic), the group that coordinates the tour of this country.

Castro Espín expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome in this southern region of the country, where he arrived last Friday after previously visiting the cities of Milan, Genoa, Turin, Florence, and Pescara, as well as the capital of the country, Rome.

Sorrentino acknowledged the interest generated by the novel and advanced Code of Families recently approved in Cuba, which is being studied in this country, and expressed to the director of Cenesex the interest of this locality in participating this year in various activities organized by Cenesex.

In a meeting with a wide representation of political parties, trade union organizations, and popular sectors of Rende, held at the headquarters of the Spa-Arrow circle, the deputy indicated that the Revolution "is a reality, but it is also a hope".

She expressed that "the medical collaboration in Calabria is a way of restoring the support we have always had from the Italian people, which has been one of the most supportive of the Cuban Revolution".

She cited as an example of recent achievements in Cuba its new Family Code, approved with more than 66 percent of the votes in a popular referendum at the end of 2022, which represents the social advances obtained as a result of the revolutionary work.

She noted that this legislation makes it possible to democratically regulate family relations, based on the principle of eliminating all discrimination, previously endorsed in the new Constitution of the Republic approved in 2019, whose legal implementation guarantees the rights of all the people.
