More than eight million voters are called to vote in Cuba

Havana, Mar 26 (RHC) Cuba is experiencing a historic day for its democracy on Sunday when 8,120,072 voters are summoned to the polls to elect all 470 lawmakers to the National Assembly of People's Power (Parliament).

Those who will be elected will be in charge of choosing the President and Vice President of the Republic and continue with the legislative development by the Constitution.

The national election process will take place in 12,427 constituencies (electoral districts), for which 23,648 polling stations have been created (250 of them are special) and more than 200,000 authorities will intervene (62,000 from constituencies and more than 118,000 at the tables).

The polling stations will be open from 07:00 to 18:00 hours, local time. However, some centers in seven provinces have been authorized to open before 07:00 hours to facilitate the participation of voters who live in remote or difficult-to-access areas.

Candidates must win more than 50 percent of the valid votes cast to be elected as lawmakers in parliament. (Source: PL)
