Campaign against relations between Cuba and Peru is rejected

Havana, 27 mar (RHC) Peruvian analyst Gustavo Espinoza spoke out this Monday against a campaign that, according to him, seeks to cloud relations between Peru and Cuba trying to involve the island in the internal affairs of this South American country.

In an article published in the newspaper Uno, Espinoza also questioned and rejected inappropriate comments by the former foreign minister, Miguel Rodríguez, about those links. He pointed out that these comments lack foundation and contribute to the vain attempts to affect bilateral ties, which are deeply rooted in history.

The former parliamentarian recalled that at the recent summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said in a debate on the Peruvian situation, that Peru's problems must be resolved by Peruvians.

After ruling out the alleged Cuban interference in countries of the region, raised by the aforementioned campaign, he said that "it seems that they had the wrong country, because the one who operates through its intelligence on the continent and the world is the United States."

As proof of this, the political analyst recalled that in the 1970s, the Peruvian government expelled the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) from the country for its meddling in internal affairs.

He also recalled that in 1960 the then foreign minister, Raúl Porras Barrenechea, defied the order of the right-wing president Manuel Prado, that he vote for the expulsion of Cuba from the Organization of American States (OAS).

Porras opposed the measure promoted by Washington and invoked the principle of non-intervention, a gesture that constitutes a milestone in bilateral relations.

Espinoza pointed out as part of the denounced campaign, the attacks on the Peruvian organizations of solidarity with Cuba, which seek to discredit those who promote or carry out fraternity activities with the Island and defend their right to independence and self-determination.
