Foreign Minister of Russia Sergei Lavrov with an intense official agenda in Cuba

Havana, April 19 (RHC) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will begin a two-day official visit to Cuba today, focused on promoting political, economic, educational and cultural cooperation.

After tours of Brazil and Venezuela with similar objectives, the foreign minister will hold a dialogue with his counterpart from the Caribbean country, Bruno Rodríguez.

Currently, Moscow is one of the top 10 trading partners of the island, and both maintain relations defined as strategic and of high priority, based on historical ties of friendship and a political dialogue aimed at promoting cooperation in all spheres.

These bilateral ties are of special relevance for Cuba's Economic-Social Development Plan until 2030, in fields also significant for Russian companies, with a presence in the energy and industry sectors.

Cuban-Russian Intergovernmental Commission for economic-commercial and scientific-technical collaboration also stands out as an essential mechanism in the follow-up and realization of joint projects, and the materialization of the will to expand the presence of investors on the island.

Similarly, Cuba continuously expresses its gratitude for Moscow's vote in favor of the resolution presented each year before the United Nations Organization demanding the end of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

The Caribbean nation also recognizes Russia’s contributions in recent times, including the shipment of supplies since August 2021, which allowed the effective fight against the Covid-19 pandemic, and the donation last February of 25,000 tons of wheat flour. (Source: Prensa Latina)
