Cuba and China officially present a joint television program

Havana, Apr 29 (RHC) Executives from China Media Group (CMG) and Cuban Television officially presented the television program ConTextos (ConTexts), dedicated entirely to information about China.

At the Ambassadors’ Hall of the Habana Libre Hotel, the Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Havana, Zhang Buxin, said that the program co-produced by China Global Television Network (CGTN in Spanish) and Cuba’s Caribe channel is a new milestone in the cooperation between the two countries.

The television production highlights the mutual trust and willingness to boost bilateral relations, and is a window for mutual understanding between the two peoples, he added.

CMG Latin America General Director Zhu Boying said that in the face of the international media landscape and manipulation, our media have the responsibility to have more diverse, fair, impartial, and rational voices.

He highlighted the cooperation between the two countries and how relevant issues from the two nations have been reflected in mutual news spaces.

Zhu reaffirmed the willingness to promote various exchange initiatives between the Cuban and Chinese media and praised ConTextos as a first joint program, which he described as a new mode of successful media cooperation.

Waldo Ramírez, first vice-president of the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television, in turn, spoke of the historic ties between the two countries as an example of relations of mutual respect between nations, a legacy to be preserved for future generations.

He underscored the political coincidences in the fight against unilateral sanctions, for peace and multilateralism.

Meanwhile, Canal Caribe Director Adrian Fonseca thanked all those present and the team that produced the program and commented that it is an honor to contribute to making China’s reality known and strengthening common ties.

On air on trial mode since July 6, 2022, ConTextos lasts 30 minutes and consists of news, analysis by Chinese commentators, and interviews with international experts to discuss different topics in-depth, and to tell the Cuban public the truth about China.

The TV program was designed to be broadcast every Wednesday at 21:30 hours, local time, on Canal Caribe, with reruns on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons, but its contents are also broadcasted on the multimedia services platform AMSP, belonging to CCTV+, which provides video news, live signals and customized columns produced by CMG and CGTN.
