Havana, May 1 (RHC)-- The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated on Monday Santiago Peña on his election, the day before, as president of Paraguay.
In his Twitter profile, the Cuban head of state ratified to his counterpart the willingness of the Caribbean nation to deepen relations between both peoples and governments.

Peña, of the Asociación Nacional Republicana Partido Colorado (ANR-PC) triumphed in this Sunday's elections with one million 291 thousand 914 votes (42.74 percent of the votes) against his main opponent, Efraín Alegre, of the opposition Concertación Nacional Para Un Nuevo Paraguay (27.4 percent).
The 44-year-old economist will take office next August 15 for the period 2023-2028, and in his first speech as President of the Republic called on his compatriots to unity and harmony in order to reactivate the country's economy after years of economic stagnation and fiscal deficit.
The ANR-PC obtained a majority in the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, and won almost all the regional governments, positions which were also renewed in the elections.
