Havana, June 2 (RHC)-- The outstanding troubadour Silvio Rodríguez said Friday that he will carry in his heart, on behalf of the Cuban trova of all times, the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa in Social Sciences and Humanities received from the University of Havana (UH).
In the Aula Magna of the almost three-hundred-year-old university and in the presence of the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, the renowned artist expressed the ties that bind him to the center and the historical links with the Faculty that presents him with the high award.
"It is indescribable to be recognized by this institution through which so many personalities have passed and made history, and especially if this happens in the country where we were born, to say thank you is not enough for such a generous gesture," said Rodriguez, and evoked important moments that unite him to that university.
Silvio recalled the seminar of trovadores and troubadours of several generations who exposed reasons and dreams, and the valuable theoretical contribution of important musicologists, and said that in Ojala, the cultural project where he works, is pending the publication of those conferences that hope to materialize in coordination with the UH.
Dr. Manuel Calviño was in charge of the words of praise, and highlighted Silvio, troubadour, composer, human being.
Dr. Miriam Nicado, rector of the university, presented the title of Doctor Honoris Causa, while the students of the Faculty of Design gave a folder with posters that include iconic songs of the artist.
The National Choir of Cuba, conducted by maestro Digna Guerra, performed works such as 'El Necio', 'Locuras' and 'El Escaramujo', among others composed by the honoree.
