Guantánamo, June 29 (RHC)-- The first working day in Guantánamo of Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of the Republic, concluded on Wednesday with the ceremony of delivery and reception of the positions of governor and vice governor of the easternmost territory.

In a ceremony held at the headquarters of the People's Power of the province and as established by the Regulations of the Local Bodies of the People's Power and the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, Emilio Matos Mosqueda, outgoing governor, signed the minutes together with the incoming governor Alis Azaharez Torreblanca and Carlos Raúĺ Martínez Turro, new vice-governor.

The member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) highlighted the work of Matos Mosqueda in his 20 years of work in the Local Bodies of the People's Power, and referred to the high responsibility of the Government to continue working every day more for the revolutionary people of Guantanamo, who deserve it so much.

There are many challenges, he said, but we must move forward paying all the necessary attention to the concerns of the population.

Previously, the Cuban head of government, during his fourth governmental visit to the province, visited the desalination plant of Punta de Maisí, where he learned about the difficult hydrographic situation of the municipality, since there has been little rainfall so far this year.

In a meeting with the Municipal Administration Council, he emphasized the increase of food production, a survey of idle lands and their delivery as soon as possible, the exchange in the communities to identify the problems, and to follow up on the main dissatisfactions of the population.

Marrero Cruz exchanged with residents of the community of Los Arados and Punta de Maisí, a meeting in which the residents raised problems that affect them, among these the insufficient sale of agricultural products in small squares and markets, the current situation with the water supply and passenger transportation.

Accompanied by Rafael Pérez Fernández, member of the Central Committee of the PCC and first secretary in the province and Alis Azahares Torreblanca, governor, he explained the incidence of the current situation of the country as one of the obstacles to satisfy the demands of the population.

Today the conclusions of the governmental visit to Guantánamo will be made after an intense program of exchange in productive and social centers, communities and with the people, in the 10 municipalities of the province. (Source:ACN)
